Christy's Case Study

2 comments:

  1. Presenting Problem: Teen girl with concerns of depression. Feelings of low mood, tearfulness, and lack of interest in activities. Not turning in homework. History of cutting.

Treatment History: Seeing patient in conjunction with doctor for one year with a break in treatment due to financial difficulties. Initially resistant to involvement with counseling but willing to take antidepressant. Patient with limited engagement, flat affect, no eye contact. Over several months appears to be doing somewhat better, more engaged, less feelings of depression. No suicidal ideation. Attempts counseling but therapist is not a good fit.

During break in treatment medication is discontinued. Lots of family conflict. Depression worsens and pt seen in the ER for suicidal ideation. Re-engages in therapy with a new counselor. Seen in clinic but not taking medication. High levels of stress continuing at home.

Current Goals: Keep pt/family engaged. Continue discussion of medication. Continue coordination with other treatment providers.

  2. Excellent case Christy as it tis tricky with adolescents who cut. This is also a good presentation for the test as well as there may be some questions about adolescents who cut
